The (Winter Rye) Grass Is Looking Greener

During the September 2019 Home Days weekend, there was a lot of activity taking place on campus. In addition to the meeting about the then recently announced dissolution of the possible merger with University of Bridgeport, there were conversations across the alumni present about what happens next, and there was a service project planting winter rye in the Marlboro garden behind the greenhouse. As the photo shows, there has been excellent germination on the freshly planted winter rye. And the other promising achievement is that the Marlboro College Alumni Association has been reformed and officially recognized by the college administration. All since the weekend of September 28-29.

The launch of this alumni association website is another incremental step in the reengagement of the alumni as a group. The website going live happens to coincide with the college’s next Trustee’s meeting and members of the interim Association Council are attending the meeting. The News page of the site is the place to look for an update on what transpires at the Trustee’s meeting.

Now that the association is officially recognized and there is an interim council in place, the next areas of growth for the association are the establishment and populating of committees and the continuing effort to connect with the wider alumni body. As the association builds momentum, there will be updates to the website to add functionality to better address the association’s needs. In the meantime, the biggest focus for the council is on reaching and engaging with as many alumni as possible. Spread the word, share the link to the website, and check back for new posts that will share updates on the association’s work. We look forward to discovering what we can build together!
