Elections Rules 2024

2024 MCAA Council Election Rules and Policies

This election is governed by the MCAA bylaws, ratified by the Association in 2022.

  • There are four (4) open council seats that will be filled through this election process.

    • Voters will select up to four candidates on the ballot. The candidates who receive the highest number of votes will fill the four open seats. In the event of a tie, each candidate will fill one council seat assuming that there are open seats equal to the number of candidates in the tie.

    • Council terms will begin in January 2025, with an orientation and transition period in December 2024.

    • In the event that there is a tie where two or more candidates receive the same number of votes and there are not enough open council seats for each candidate to fill a position, the open council position(s) will be filled through a random act, such as a number generator, under invited observation by the affected candidates.

    • If a random number generator is used, candidates will be pre-assigned a number in advance of the draw. The random number generator (RNG) will then be used to select one of the numbers representing a candidate. Refer to the process outlined below for additional information.

  • The proposed changes to the bylaws will be on the ballot, with the option to vote to approve or reject them. You will be able to vote on each proposed change separately.

  • A ‘Yes’ vote means you endorse the proposed change to the bylaws. A ‘No’ vote will keep the bylaws the same. Voters may also choose to abstain from voting on this question.

  • Amendment of the bylaws will be carried by a simple majority of participating voters.

  • The voting will be conducted online using the digital voting application Electionbuddy.com.

    • The voting window will open on November 18, 2022 and close on November 25, 2022 at 11:59 PM (Pacific time).

      • Anyone who ever attended Marlboro College in Marlboro, VT, or the Marlboro College Graduate Center, in Brattleboro, VT, for any length of time, and any good-faith friend of the college (including former faculty and staff) is eligible to vote in this election.

      • All Association members will automatically be sent a ballot. Eligible voters who are not yet Association members must join the Association by November 1 to receive a ballot and participate in this election.

    • Each person voting will receive one ballot. Each ballot is only meant for a specific individual and cannot be shared.

  • The results of the council election will be verified by the Nominations and Elections committee no later than December 2, 2024, and the results will be announced to the candidates and the Association on or before that date.
