Candidate Profile – 2024 Alumni Council Election

Journalist and editor. Sadly, Marlboro's meaning and impact diminished over time after it shut down. It never merged. It’s gone.

My vision is creating an inclusive alumni group, as opposed to a college council that excludes many people which is currently how the council is operated. Council meetings are held in private as opposed to public, there is a lack of events and projects to bring people together, and there is a lack of advocacy for college alumni and the college’s history, which is why its impact has diminished over time.

The council should be about connection. Yet, the council has operated in the spirit of disconnection, and many have felt disconnection due to the council’s lack of action and advocacy for the Marlboro community at large.

There should be a revival of Potash Hill magazine, a podcast advocating and promoting projects currently by members of the Marlboro community, and a support network for community members in need.

Instead, the council has a website that hasn’t been updated in almost a year. Any project, including a potential Potash Hill revival, and the council’s Facebook page, is subject to bureaucracy and red tape.

What would I change? Everything. But this council (which has more accurately been called a “club” by many people) is not inclusive to the Marlboro community at large. It also seems that it's not inclusive to change.
