Frederick Gray
Candidate Profile – 2024 Alumni Council Election
Frederick Gray, 1971
Frederick Gray
I graduated from Marlboro in June 1971, and moved to San Francisco that fall to play music. After some success with that (a long story!) and coming out in 1972, I returned to Marlboro (which I missed terribly) in 1980 to live, and I've happily been here ever since. I have traveled a lot, taught at a University in Mexico, and at The Putney School from 1995 to 2010. I'm honored to be asked to join the council, but aside from a propensity for organization and some social skills, I have to admit that faculty meetings were not my idea of a good time! I do miss my students, however, and I'm still in touch with many of them. I loved my time at Marlboro, was fortunate to receive an excellent education there, especially from Blanche and Louis Moyse, and will be forever heartbroken about how it all ended. Asi es la vida... oh, and I'm proficient in Spanish; much less so in French. I look forward to hearing the thoughts and goals of others who are on the council, especially those who attended the college after I did.
